Welcome to the Steelman Sheep page!

We have been keeping sheep since 2000. We started out with Poly pay crosses, then commercial Suffolk, and currently raise registered Katahdins. We got Katahdins in 2006. Katahdins are a hair sheep so shearing is unnecessary. Katahdins come in a variety of colors. We raise Katahdins because they shed, are very economical to keep, and because they have wonderful temperaments to work with.

We keep sheep because we like to eat lamb. Our lambs are forage only fed (hay and grass). We are in transition to being a certified organic property (2011). We sell lamb meat by the whole or half carcass. Call in the spring to reserve a lamb if you are interested.

Our original ram (Marshmallow, Mello for short) was mainly white with red highlights was born as a twin in 2006. He was RR codon. Mello had a 'perfect' Katahdin coat that shed out completely every year. He had dark feet.  Mello passed away during the winter of 2009.  We are replacing him with his son Rufus.

Our current ram Rufus is red with a white tail, white star, two white socks, and a white belly and was born as a single in 2010. He is RR codon. He has mixed colored feet.

Rusty is a red ewe with white markings born as a single in 2006, she looks like a mini-Hereford. She is QR codon. She has white feet.  Rusty had twin ram lambs (Julian and Bull) in 2007, triplet ram lambs (Pete, Thor, and Craig) in 2008, twins (one ewe - Caramel and one ram - Cocoa) in 2009, and a single ram lamb (Rufus) in 2010. Rusty is the matriarch in our herd.

Sugar is a white ewe born as a twin in 2009.  She is QR codon.  Sugar has a 'perfect' Katahdin coat and is the first to shed our completely in our flock every year.  She has white feet.  Sugar had a large single ewe lamb (April) in 2010.

  • April is a white ewe lamb born in April and is for sale.

Honey is a red ewe with white markings born as a twin in 2009.  She is QR codon.  She has mixed color feet.  Honey had twin ram lambs (Hugo and Hector) in 2010.

  • Honey is for sale because she refuses to learn how to be lead, a requirement of living on our farm.
  • Hector is a white RR codon ram lamb born in April and is for sale.
  • Hugo is a red with white markings ram lamb born in April and is for sale.

Missy is a white ewe born as a single in 2009.  She is QR codon.  She has black feet.  Missy had a large single ewe lamb (Marzipan) in 2010.

  • Marzipan is a white ewe lamb with a large red spot on her neck and black spots on her hind legs born in March and is for sale.

We track the growth weights of our lambs each spring for 90 days.

We are looking forward to doing business with you.
