Recommendations from Marcus Buckingham:

If you want to have sustained individual success - "Discover what you dislike doing and stop doing it."  In other words, do the things you love and find someone else to do the things you dislike doing, even if it means paying someone to do them.

If you want to be a great manager - "Discover what is unique about each person and capitalize on it."  In other words, identify people's strengths and have them use those strengths in their job.

If you want to be a great leader - "Discover what is universal and capitalize on it."  In other words, identify commonalities with the people you seek to lead and emphasize that.  Great leaders provide the following 5 information to their followers:

  1. Tell us who we are supposed to serve.
  2. Tell us using stories.
  3. Tell us what our strengths are.
  4. Tell us how we are doing compared to where we want to be.
  5. Tell us what actions to take right now.
